The Moriches Satellite Branch will be 7,000 square feet on one level with ample parking and an outdoor program space. It will be built in the same architectural style of the existing 95-year-old Little Red Schoolhouse, which will be adjacent to the new library building.
One of the many benefits of this project is the preservation and restoration of the Little Red Schoolhouse. After numerous discussions with community partners – including civic leaders – the library committed $1 million in funding to be used to restore the deteriorating facility. The library will be working with community leaders in an effort to seek private and government grants to raise another $1 million in funds to pay for the balance of the restoration.
It is ultimately envisioned that the new Moriches Satellite Branch will be connected to the restored Little Red Schoolhouse through a breezeway. It is also projected that the restored Little Red Schoolhouse will serve as a large community program/meeting room for the benefit of local residents.
