Statement from Board of Trustees President Joe Maiorana

The December 10 passage of the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library bond proposition will enhance the quality and accessibility of vital library services for our community for decades to come.

The district will undertake the renovation and expansion of our main library, which doesn’t presently comply with building codes – which is technologically and physically obsolete – and which is 28 percent smaller than the recommended library size for a community with our population.

The “yes” vote also sets in motion the creation of two permanent satellite library branches that will, for the first time, bring quality library services within close geographic reach for residents of the Mastic Beach and Moriches areas.

We applaud the people of the Mastics, Moriches, and Shirley for the visionary investment they have made in their community’s future.
